Scratch that [17 Mar 2006|05:05pm]
I've been planning on teaching English with a few friends abroad since December. Recently I began making accommodation arrangements. We planned on staying two months (the mandatory minimum) beginning in the first week of June. The teaching center instructed me that June was the absolute latest we could arrive. I graduate at the end of the second week of June. Anyway, today I asked the Principal if it would be possible to graduate two weeks early in order to participate in the program. I offered to complete any work that teachers might assign in the two weeks, and to take my final exams early. He basically said he couldn't make any exceptions. Bullshit. It isn't as if I want to take off early to go on a cruise or vacation in a tropical paradise (like many of my classmates will following graduation). I'm not exactly missing time vital to my education either; the last two weeks of school are notoriously unproductive. I don't know... the administration has this thing about attendance at graduation. I know of a few then-seniors who contemplated skipping it, but were dissuaded by the higher-ups. Meh... Now I think I'm going to skip out of spite.

My name is ***** [05 Mar 2006|10:23pm]
I'm starting this journal because I want to become a better writer. I recently finished applying to colleges, and though I think my essays were well written, they weren't as good as they could have been. I'm not an organized person, so if you know me, it shouldn't surprise you that I started and finished most of my apps on the January 15th deadline. I wrote the essays in about 3 hours, had my father (who, lucky for me is a professional editor and writer) look them over, made the necessary revisions, and sent them out online with the common application.

I'm also not going to disclose my identity. Not because I'm Superman, but because now that everyone seems to be doing this, employers, universities, and graduate schools are using the internet to further screen applicants. I think that I'm a pretty balanced person with good morals and common sense, but why take unnecessary risks?

Anyway, I have a bit of homework to finish up before the end of the marking period, so this is the end of my first entry. Until next time, I'm *****.
